Tsukechi Gorge
Hidden away in the eastern part of Gifu Prefecture, Tsukechi Gorge’s hiking trails offer breathtaking views of brilliant turquoise waters and stunning waterfalls.
Snowmelts from Mt.Ontake flowing into the river forming two waterfalls in Tsukechi Gorge Fudo Park - Kannon Waterfall and the powerful Fudo Waterfall.
The water is so clear that you can see the bottom of the river.
Take a stroll along the 860-meter-long nature trail and cleanse your mind and recharge your spirits with some shinrin-yoku forest bathing.
The scenery will vary vastly depending on the time of year you visit. In the fresh green season of April and May you will catch beautiful rhododendrons in full bloom; yet visit in winter and the landscape is likely to be blanketed in pure white snow.
On wet days, you may see a rainbow appear in front of you; and in autumn the forest glows with amber, yellow and red leaves.
Take a break at one of the restaurants serving grilled freshwater fish caught in the clear Tsukechi River.
For a longer stay, there are campgrounds near the gorge.
Tsukechi Gorge offers a place to feel and touch beautiful nature just 40 minutes bus ride from Nakatsugawa City.
How to get there
From Nagoya Station take a Limited Express Shinano train 50 minutes to
Nakatsugawa Station. Then, take a Kitaena Kotsu bus from Nakatsugawa
Station for 40 minutes and get off at Tsukechi-kyo guchi bus stop. If you’d
prefer not to walk from the bus stop, a taxi or rental car is recommended.
