The remains of Genkanguchi-mon Gate

As the name Genkan-guchi (meaning "front door") indicates, the route going through this gate was the official path to the keep. Beyond this gate was a building with dirt floor passageway. The passageway was connected to a hut. The gate was usually locked as it was prohibited to enter the castle through this gate. The key was managed by metsuke-yaku (supervisor).
