The Remains of Kazafuki-mon Gate
The Kazafuki-mon Gate, whose 2nd floor was used as fodder storage, was also called Ōte-mon Gate (main gate) and used as a doorway from castle town to San-no-maru (outermost region of the castle). A gatekeeper's lodge was placed on the south side of the gate, from which gatekeepers were monitoring people's passage all day. The gate was kept open while the lord of the castle was present, but it was kept closed while the lord was away to serve in Edo, and the side gate was used instead.
