The Remains of Kita-mon Gate
This gate, located at the outer wall of the castle, was attached by mud wall. There were no gatekeepers here. It was located on the north side in relation to Kazafuki-mon Gate at the entrance of the castle, and that is where the name Kita-mon (north gate) came from. Further down the path to the east, there was the Kiso-gawa River, while going down to the north there was a residential area for samurai retainers. The pond beside Kita-mon was a reservoir solely depending on rainfalls. The reservoir supplied drinking water for horses.
